Reverse Osmosis System

Reverse osmosis is one of the oldest and most popular separation techniques used mainly for the purification of water.

It is a water treatment process that removes impurities using a semi-permeable membrane. It is simple, safe and cost-effective. It eradicates over 99% of contaminants from water such as dissolved solids, organics, bacteria. Reverse osmosis helps in improving the quality and safety of water for domestic as well as for industrial use. The benefits of reverse osmosis are: This process can be used to effectively remove many types of dissolved and suspended chemical particles as well as biological entities (like bacteria) from the water and this technique has a wide application in treating liquid wastes or discharges.

Reverse Osmosis works by using a high-pressure pump to increase the pressure on the salt side of the RO and force the water across the semi-permeable RO membrane, leaving almost all (around 95 to 99 %) dissolved salts in the reject stream behind. Reverse Osmosis (RO) uses a specialized membrane material that is selective about what it allows to pass through, and what it prevents from passing. The RO membranes pass water very easily because water has a small molecular size, but membranes stop many other contaminants from passing through. Only water and small non-ionized (or non-charged) molecules are allowed to pass through. RO has become very popular for water purification applications due to its ability to remove both suspended and dissolved impurities without the need for regenerate chemicals.

Applications of Reverse Osmosis systems : Kitchens, hospitals, Offices, Schools, refineries, power plants, semiconductor manufacturing facilities, manned spacecraft, sailboats, etc.
